Historical Buildings

Early in 2010, the City of Edmonton announced its Open Data catalogue.  The idea is to expose various sources of information possessed by the City so that hopefully the citizenry will make use of the information in some productive and useful way.

I was looking for a project to help me learn and improve my Android development skills, and I’m a bit of a history buff, so when I saw that there was a catalog of historical buildings here in Edmonton, I thought that it would be neat to see have an application on my smart phone (currently a Google ADP1, aka HTC Dream) that would show me a list of these buildings and where they are in Edmonton.

Enter Historical Buildings.  This is an application for devices running Android, that basically does this.  I’ve been working on it off and on (mostly off) since about April, 2010.  The current version (which is 1.0.12 as of August 28, 2010) should run on Android 1.6 or higher.  Feel free to check it.
